In this episode I sit down with Lourdes Torres — intuitive guide, tarot reader, artist, and founder of Authentic Lourdes — for a conversation that starts with a Miami wedding, a parking miracle, and a shared rental car, and ends somewhere much deeper. Lourdes grew up with a precise, science-informed understanding of intuition, had that understanding methodically dismantled by a conservative religious environment, survived spiritual and emotional abuse by her pastor, and then spent years rebuilding her relationship with her own inner knowing from the ground up. She is one of the clearest thinkers on this subject I have spoken with, and she is also genuinely funny.

Featuring Wyze Guest Guide Lourdes Torres
Lourdes Torres is an intuitive guide, tarot reader, artist, and founder of Authentic Lourdes. She studied science, mathematics, business, and fashion, and brings a rigorous analytical framework to the practice of developing intuition — one that makes the concept finally tangible for people who have always found it frustratingly undefined. She works with clients one-on-one, offers tarot readings, and creates skincare and watercolor art through her brand. You can find her at authenticlourdes.com.
What We Cover in This Episode
- A science-informed definition of intuition that finally makes it tangible
- Why food, water, and physical health are the foundation of clear reception
- How divination tools work as algorithms — matrices, data sets, the Rubik’s Cube of guidance
- The gut that went quiet: how Lourdes rebuilt her inner connection after 13 years of being taught to suppress it
- How to ask your intuition directly for what you want to know — and why this works better than any tool
- Why intuition is gentle and your ego is loud, and how to tell the difference in real time
- The wonder practice: the easiest and most immediate way to talk to your intuition
- Why the more you say yes, the more it guides you
What Intuition Actually Is
Lourdes was told in fashion school that her intuition would be the most important thing in her career. She asked her professor to define it. She got nothing useful — just “it’ll come instinctually over time.” She was not satisfied with that.
So she built her own definition. Intuition is your five senses — extended, expanded, and calibrated to receive information that is already there but beyond the range of ordinary perception. The sun emits ultraviolet rays, infrared, UVB, UVC — you cannot see them, but they pass through your body and your brain processes them. Your intuition is what happens when all of your senses are tuned to the full bandwidth of what is being transmitted, not just the narrow visible band.
This reframe matters because it makes intuition practical. It is not mystical. It is not reserved for special people. It is a skill of attention and calibration — and like any skill, it can be developed, lost, and rebuilt.
The Channel Can Be Overwhelmed
One of the things Lourdes raises that I do not hear enough is the other end of the intuition problem — not the inability to receive, but the inability to filter. For empaths and highly sensitive people, the challenge is often not that the channel is closed but that it is open too wide. Everything comes in. It is exhausting.
Her solution has two parts. The first is physical: the quality of what you put in your body directly shapes the quality of your reception. Water, food, how it was prepared, how fresh it is — these are not spiritual affectations, they are the practical maintenance of the vessel. She shops by letting her body lead. She goes to the grocery store without a plan and notices what she is drawn to. Half a banana. Cabbage today. She eats warm food even in tropical heat because her body tells her it needs it. She drinks a small amount of coffee in the morning and none after, and if she is going through something her body will refuse it entirely.
The second is energetic: you can expand your toroidal field — the electromagnetic field your body naturally generates — to create a kind of perimeter that reduces what comes in when you need to concentrate or simply rest. And when you want to tune in, you contract it and start absorbing. The antenna goes both ways.
She also mentions frequency and sound work as ways to keep the nervous system calibrated, and alcohol and cannabis as things she personally avoids before channeling or reading — not because they are inherently wrong but because for her they muddy the channel.
The Gut That Went Quiet
From age 15 to 28, Lourdes was inside a conservative church community in Texas that taught her to prioritize the logos — the word, the rational, the logical — over instinct, feeling, and inner knowing. She was homeschooled. The community was insular. And the suppression of her intuition created the conditions for her pastor to spiritually, emotionally, and sexually abuse her for years.
She got out at 28, through the questions other people asked her — people who noticed something was off and kept asking, gently, until the answers started to shift. She says: never underestimate the questions you ask someone when their life seems strange. Trust that. Ask the questions.
After leaving, she went to a holistic doctor who asked her to speak her own name from her gut. She could only whisper it. She began to cry.
That is where the rebuilding started. Not from a course or a book, but from one experiment at a time — noticing what she thought she heard, following it, tracking what happened, and slowly building a positive feedback loop of evidence that her inner knowing was real and worth trusting.
Tarot came to her during college. She resisted it. She got more academic, more in her head. The cards kept being accurate. Eventually she stopped arguing with them.
Ask the Intuition Directly
One of the most useful things Lourdes said in this conversation is also the simplest: you can ask your intuition directly for whatever you want to know. You do not need a tool. You do not need a ritual. You just ask — and then pay attention to what life brings you.
She was in a relationship where she had a nudge that something was off. She asked her intuition: show me whether this person is being faithful. At the gym, she left her headphones in but turned the audio off. She overheard him mention his girlfriend. She ended it the next day without explaining why.
She was wondering about another partner once while walking errands. Not anxious, just curious. She turned a corner and there they were — with someone else, coming out of a spa. Answer received.
The point is not that these methods are infallible. It is that asking and then remaining open — genuinely open, without deciding in advance what the answer should be — is how you learn to receive.
Intuition Is Gentle, Your Ego Is Loud
Lourdes makes a distinction I want to underscore. Your intuition does not bully you. It nudges. It invites. It offers information and then leaves the choice entirely to you. That is by design — it respects your free will.
Your ego, your protectors, your fear — those are the voices that get in your face, that repeat themselves, that will not let you rest. When you are not sure which voice you are hearing, pay attention to the quality of the delivery. Gentle, information-only, no pressure — that is intuition. Urgent, repetitive, insistent — that is fear.
The Wonder Practice
If I could take one thing from this conversation and hand it to every person who has ever said they do not know how to access their intuition, it would be this: wonder.
Lourdes uses the word wonder not as a feeling but as a practice. Instead of demanding clarity or trying to force a decision, she asks herself: I wonder how this is going to work out. I wonder what this delay is for. I wonder where I’m supposed to go.
That posture — open, curious, unhurried — is how you talk to your intuition. It is an invitation rather than a demand. And intuition, like most sources of wisdom, responds better to being invited than to being commanded.
